Kuldhara : Kuldhara is an abandoned village in Jaisalmer that is considered to be haunted ad sealed off by the government. It was once the largest village of the Paliwal Brahmins community. On Single Night 84 Village left everything and move ahead from these places. Legend states they cursed the village so that no one would ever be able to settle there again, and this curse is believed to be the reason Kuldhara remains a deserted and dilapidated “ghost village” to this day, with local folklore claiming that anyone who stays there overnight will die. As you wander through the dilapidated houses and structures in the ghost town of Jaisalmer, footsteps and strange whispering sounds can be heard, despite no one being there but you.
Paliwal Cemeteries : Very close to the Kuldhara Village of Jaisalmer, there lies a Cemetery dating about 400 to 500 years back that not even the locals dare to visit. It is one of the most haunted places in Jaisalmer, where many centuries back, women and little children of Paliwal Brahmin community were burnt alive as a part of the evil practice of Sati. Even today, their restless spirits wander around, making their presence known to visitors through unpleasant occurrences and paranormal activities. Those who have visited this site at night, have not left without spine-chilling experiences, giving them nightmares for a long time. They have heard the undesirable sounds of anklets (payals) and metallic bells (ghungroos) in the area. Some have claimed to have seen handprints on the vehicles and their windshields.
Jaseheri Oasis : This is natural Oasis lies between Kuldhara and Khabha and serves as the source of water for various animals, birds and local villages in the day. it is also among the popular haunted places in Jaisalmer, shrouded with mystery and eerie charm. People have experienced unexplained phenomena and ghostly encounters at this otherwise serene point. As the legend goes, this oasis once became the point of a brutal, long-forgotten battle between two groups who wanted to take control of this water source. Many soldiers faced their untimely demise at this place. Although these fallen soldiers left this place physically, their spirits never left the oasis. Moreover, those who lost their lives here while digging this oasis still reside here. Locals have heard strange voices and seen ghosts roam around the lake at night, only to watch them disappear into the darkness and stillness of the desert.
Haunted Well in Dedha Village : While we have seen it in the movies or heard tales of spirits haunting a well, you can truly experience it in Dedha. There’s a well in Dedha, which once was a prime resource of water for the inhabitants of this region, now lies deserted and everyone fears going close to it. According to a legend, the king who ruled the region once had a rift with the villagers and ordered his troops to kill them. So, his men threw the bodies of the villagers into the well, which has been cursed since then. And those who have dared to visit the area, have witnessed apparitions roaming near the well. A Shiva temple has also been built nearby. It is among the popular haunted sites in Jaisalmer, and even after many centuries, the locals keep themselves away from even wandering in the area near the well.
Khabha Fort : The Khabha Fort was once the Fort of the Maharaja of Jaisalmer but later shifted his regime towards the Trikuta Hill of Strategic defence. As Jaisalmer lied on the wealthy silk route, The Khabha Fort used to act as a serai fort for traders passing through Jaisalmer. Legend say As it lied on the wealthy silk route, it was often raided by Looters and dacoits, who robbed the innocent traders and sometimes killed them mercilessly. This fort is full of negative energy of the spirits. Moreover, the villages were also cursed by the Paliwal community after they left and hence it lies in ruins even today and only those with brave herts dare to wander here in the dark.
Sati Site Nabh Dungar : Sati Site at Nabh Dungar is indeed one of the most renowned haunted places in Jaisalmer. On this site, more than 400 women were burnt alive as a part of the Sati Pratha prevalent back in the times. Their ashes were later buried near the cremation ground. Today, the entire site is in ruins, with not a single memorial standing straight. The only sign of human existence nearby is the temple atop the Nabh Dungar, Jaisalmer’s second highest point. The temple houses a very uniquely designed main idol that even the priest knows nothing about. As you walk through the site, there is a negative energy that takes over you, with desolate air adding to an uneasy feeling. Many have experienced strange sightings and heard voices of ghosts speaking to each other, leaving them in startled state. Since the place is the cradle of the supernatural, not even the brave dare wandering around this area, especially in the dark.
Bada Bagh : A historical garden complex features cenotaphs (chhatris) commemorating the ancestors of the royal family of Jaisalmer. However, underneath the calm and scenic exteriors of this garden hides a dark secret that has led to it being considered among the haunted places in Jaisalmer. It is said that the site is haunted by the spirit of the royal family members, mainly that of the king who did not find peace after death and still roams the area at night. Those who visited this place at night have reported strange happenings like whispers in the wind, sudden temperature drops, and the feeling of being watched. Its remote location and eerie atmosphere further make Bada Bagh an ideal spot for negative energies to live.
